Worked example
A worked example, using the numbers a research laboratory actually used
Concentration: 10 mg divided by 4 mL equals 2.5 mg per mL, which is 2500 micrograms per mL. Volume to draw: 1000 micrograms divided by 2500 micrograms per mL equals 0.4 mL. On a U-100 insulin syringe, 0.4 mL is the 40 unit mark. Quantities per vial: 10 mg is 10000 micrograms, divided by 1000 micrograms equals 10.
Step by step
- Read the stated strength off the vial and enter it, remembering that nobody has checked it.
- Decide the diluent volume before you add anything; a larger volume gives finer measurement, a smaller volume gives a longer-lasting vial.
- Add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall of the vial rather than directly onto the powder.
- Let the powder dissolve without shaking. Do not force it.
- Enter the quantity you are calculating for and read the syringe mark, not the volume, if you are using an insulin syringe.
- Store the reconstituted vial refrigerated. No stability data has been published for epitalon in solution, so this is laboratory practice rather than an instruction from any authority.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the vial field say as stated by the seller?
Because that is all it is. There is no FDA-approved epitalon product, so no strength has ever been assigned or reviewed. Every number this tool produces inherits the accuracy of that one unverified input.
Why does the tool not suggest a dose?
Because there is nothing to suggest one from. No dose-finding study has been published, no human pharmacokinetic study exists, and the doses in the literature disagree by up to four orders of magnitude.
One study in your table uses 1 mg per mouse and the rest use 1 microgram. Is that a typo?
It is what the source published. Why does the explorer show studies of a different substance?
Because the evidence people quote for epitalon largely comes from them. Five rows tested Epithalamin, the pineal gland extract, including both mortality studies. Hiding them would make the table tidier and the picture false.
How long does a reconstituted vial last?
No stability data for epitalon in solution has been published: no shelf life, no in-use stability and no diluent compatibility data. Refrigeration after reconstitution is ordinary laboratory practice for a lyophilized peptide, not an instruction from any authority.
